SIX REQUIREMENTS · ONE MEANINGFUL JOURNEY

Plan your next step.

This is a suggested planning order. You can work on learning and service in parallel, subject to each role’s eligibility and appointment rules.

0 of 6 requirements marked complete

Your ticks stay on this device. This checklist is a personal planning aid; TMI verifies award eligibility.

  1. REQUIREMENT 1 OF 6

    Complete two distinct Pathways paths

Build your communication and leadership skills across all five levels in each of two different paths.

    How to complete this step

Choose two paths with different names. Complete each path’s required projects, electives and meeting-role requirements, and obtain your Base Camp approvals. Work with your Vice President Education (VPE) to check that your achievements are recorded.

Keep: both path names, completion dates and achievement records. Completing the same path twice does not meet this requirement.

Explore our six pathways and project resources. Official education FAQs ↗

  2. REQUIREMENT 2 OF 6

Serve your club as an officer

Complete one annual term or two six-month terms, with a Club Success Plan and District-sponsored officer training.

    How to complete this step

The seven qualifying roles are President, Vice President Education, Vice President Membership, Vice President Public Relations, Secretary, Treasurer and Sergeant at Arms.

An annual term runs July–June; semiannual terms run July–December or January–June. Participate in preparing a Club Success Plan and attend District-sponsored Club Officer Training during at least one of the terms you are using.

Keep: your club number, role, term dates, Success Plan participation and training record. Find your officer’s resources. Official application requirements ↗

  3. REQUIREMENT 3 OF 6

    Serve as a District leader

Complete a full July–June District leadership term.

    How to complete this step

Qualifying positions include District Director, Program Quality Director, Club Growth Director, Public Relations Manager, Administration Manager, Finance Manager, Division Director and Area Director.

Discuss available elected or appointed roles with your District leadership and read the District Leadership Handbook. Keep your District number, role, service dates and completion confirmation.

Club coach alternative for District leadership credit

TMI also allows successful club coaches to earn District leadership credit when the coaching requirements are met and the club has at least 20 paid members. This requires at least six months’ coaching and Distinguished or higher recognition, with credit awarded after year-end results are final. Confirm eligibility and recorded credit with World Headquarters before relying on this alternative.

Official coaching milestones ↗ · Club coach FAQ ↗

  4. REQUIREMENT 4 OF 6

Help a club succeed: mentor OR coach

Choose one formally appointed club-support assignment and complete it successfully.

    How to complete this step

    Option A · Club mentor

Support a newly chartered club for at least six months. Arrange your appointment through District leadership and ensure it is recorded with World Headquarters. Mentor additions must be submitted within 60 days after charter.

After successful service, ask a charter club officer to confirm completion to newclubs@toastmasters.org and retain the credit confirmation.

    Option B · Club coach

Check coach and club eligibility, complete the Base Camp coach training and obtain an official appointment. Serve at least six months without joining the coached club. Submit the preliminary report within 30 days, progress reports every 60 days and the final report at completion.

The club must meet the Distinguished or higher requirements by the qualifying June 30. TMI also permits coach credit when the Club Success Plan is missing but all other Distinguished requirements are met. Ask its President or officer delegate to confirm successful service to World Headquarters.

Check coach eligibility before you commit

A prospective coach must be a paid member in good standing with at least one year of membership, one annual or two semiannual officer terms, at least Level 2 in a path (or a qualifying legacy award) and the Club Coach Program Training module completed. You must not have belonged to the club in the previous six months.

The club needs 3–12 members, at least one officer who has completed the coach training, must be active and cannot already have two coaches.

A member mentorship is different: mentoring an individual or completing the Pathways Mentor Program does not replace the formal club mentor/coach requirement.

  5. REQUIREMENT 5 OF 6

Build a club OR run an education programme

Choose one: club sponsor, Speechcraft coordinator or Youth Leadership coordinator.

    How to complete this step

    Club sponsor

Help establish and charter a new club. Arrange a recorded District appointment, support recruitment and meetings, and assist with charter documents. After successful service, a charter club officer confirms your role to World Headquarters.

    Sponsor guidance and credit ↗

    Speechcraft

Coordinate and complete a Speechcraft programme for non-members using TMI’s official digital materials. The programme may run over four, six or eight sessions. Keep delivery dates and coordinator records for your application.

Speechcraft programme, bundle and FAQ ↗

    Youth Leadership

Coordinate the official eight-session programme with your club’s approval and oversight. The club President appoints the coordinator. Keep completion records and use the official workbook and coordinator’s guide.

Youth Leadership programme and materials ↗

Choose one of these alternatives. Completing a programme as a participant is different from coordinating it. Keep the club number or programme title and completion date.

  6. REQUIREMENT 6 OF 6

Design and deliver your DTM project

Bring your learning together in a project that benefits an organisation.

    How to complete this step

Request access: once you have completed one full path and Levels 1, 2 and 3 of a second, distinct path, email educationprogram@toastmasters.org to request the DTM project on Base Camp. You still need both full paths completed before applying for the award.

    1. Study the assignment. Open the DTM project in Base Camp and read the lessons and available project resources.
    2. Design your project. Identify an organisation’s needs, define the intended benefit and develop a team and plan.
    3. Introduce your plan. Deliver a 5–7 minute speech at your club. Give your evaluator the first-speech form.
    4. Lead the delivery. Organise the work and lead your team to complete the project.
    5. Collect 360-degree feedback. Ask team members, the benefiting organisation and a peer to evaluate your leadership using the project’s resources.
    6. Reflect on your results. Deliver an 8–10 minute speech about the outcomes, benefits and lessons. Use the second-speech evaluation form and complete the project’s remaining tasks.

Where is the full DTM project booklet?

The complete DTM project lessons and worksheets are accessed through your member account on Base Camp after access is granted. The public evaluation PDF below contains both speech forms; it is not the full teaching booklet.

FINAL STEP · VERIFY & SUBMIT

Turn your achievements into your award.

  1. Check your records. Confirm both paths, officer terms, training, service credits and the DTM project are complete. Be a paid member of the club listed on your application when TMI receives it.
  2. Complete the official application. Download Item 8956 from the current official listing. Enter your member and club details, path dates, service information and project confirmation.
  3. Ask another current club officer to verify and sign. You cannot sign your own application as its verifying officer.
  4. Submit through your club officer. TMI’s current instructions direct DTM applications to membership@toastmasters.org. DTM awards are not processed through Club Central. Keep a copy and follow up with TMI about missing records or processing.

Speechcraft

Member-access materials & programme kits

The full DTM project and its planning/360-degree feedback worksheets are supplied in Base Camp. Speechcraft coordinator materials are provided through the official digital bundle and gateway. Youth Leadership uses the official coordinator’s guide and participant workbook from TMI’s shop. These are not public free PDF downloads.

Older publication dates can still be the current official edition. PDF check time is separate from document revision. TMI’s latest official requirements and application take precedence over this Division C planning guide.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO PLAN ALONE

Start a conversation. Build your plan.

Speak with your club VPE about paths and completion records. Ask your Area Director or Division leadership about District service, club support appointments and education programmes.
